tripp89 asked: I got a call from a Disney rep a few minutes ago about the Bad Habits exhibit and game. It's just down for retooling, as she put it. But she also said that 90% of the feedback was positive. I asked her how many of the guests were fat, and she didn't have an answer for that. So my question, why is it, in your opinion, that Disney had this grand idea for the Bad Habits Gallery?

I suspect the “most of the feeback” line is a bit hollow. Even still, it’d just demonstrate why what they are doing is so dangerous. They are just reinforcing existing prejudices. I didn’t think Disney invented fat shaming, just that they were exploiting it.

Honestly, it seems pretty clear to me that Disney got this idea from the corporate funding of Blue Cross Blue Shield Florida. I’d be shocked if the idea for this didn’t originate from them. Maybe Disney thought of doing something “anti-obesity”, which is problematic enough, but the whole health shaming demeanor of the entire exhibit feels much more like the fingerprints of the health insurance industry.
